The pendulum in the Resumpti™ device rotates clockwise and counterclockwise with a brief pause in-between direction change. If magnetism and oxygen is present within the vicinity of the pendulum, the rotational cycles will be continuous. Once the door on the device is closed and the baffle cover is placed on the top, the rotations will cease, and that is because the device needs several cubic feet of oxygen to operate properly.

The composition of materials in the pendulum enable the rotational cycles. Those materials are mostly diamagnetic, but there is a magnetic steel feature also in the pendulum. With the diamagnetic and magnetic composition of the pendulum, it acts as a “rotational tug-of-war”, following the path of least resistance. The device was designed to spark interest and curiosity in those interested in STEM and science. It is up to the observer to determine how the device relates to the first two laws of thermodynamics. This is due to the fact that Resumpti™ was designed to be observable, repeatable, controllable, and measurable and its motion can be interpreted in several ways. This creates many learning opportunities for the classroom.
